As you may be aware some dental practices have been given authority to open from Monday 8th June to treat SOME of their own “emergency” cases. Principally those things that do not involve what is known as an “Aerosol Generating Procedure ( AGP )” – roughly speaking not using a high speed drill or scaler. Contact for an emergency appointment will continue to be triaged by a practice dentist to determine if an appointment is required at this time.
This represents Phase 2(a) of practice re-opening. The intention of the Scottish Government is that fairly soon after we can move to Phase 2(b). In this next Phase we would be able to commence non-emergency appointments such as examinations, x-rays, denture work and reviews among others providing they do not require the use of an AGP.
